Uniqueness
In the software market, the
Mp3DirectCut editor has taken a leading position in cutting MP3 files. It has been installed worldwide by ~10 million users.
mp3DirectCut normalizes sound, detects pauses (silence), splits very long recordings into files based on key points in the audio designed for pause detection. The program also records sound directly to MP3 from the PC sound card input. The music file appears in the main program window as a visual graph, with which work is carried out. Changing the volume of audio files is supported.
All audio files are processed through manipulations on MP3 file parts (mouse selection), since mp3DirectCut is not a full-fledged sound signal editor. Therefore, cleaning recordings from hiss, clicks, and removing other noises is not possible.

Granularity limitations
Editing an individual frame is only possible at the starting position of the track.
Sound increase and decrease occur in steps of 1.5 dB. The editor works in an 8-bit gain field.
What is not implemented (drawbacks)
ID3v2 is not read and can cause an error in the audio file length if it has been modified.
The documentation itself mentions a possible error that prevents working with the first frame of the file and recommends converting with a lower bitrate before working with the file.
Distortions (best practices)
Significant increase in playback volume can lead to artifacts during playback; multiplying audio data by a global gain factor can increase volume beyond the clipping threshold. An audio recording using compressed sound to limit overall volume can adjust the global gain field. This may limit the ability to further amplify the recording using MP3DirectCut without causing clipping.
AAC / MP4
To work with AAC files, an additional library (libfaad2.dll) must be installed.
Raw AAC sound is supported, but not AAC audio inside MP4 container files.
If you need to process MP4 audio files, you must extract the AAC audio stream, for example, using mp4box (simply renaming the .MP4 file to .AAC does not work, as the renamed file still contains the MP4 container file header).
