PuTTY serves for different protocols (including SSH, rlogin, Telnet) for remote access, and can work over a serial port.
Used when connecting to a remote PC (web server, for example) to execute various commands on it. PuTTY configures the font, color and console resolution, keeps logs, allows storing authorization keys in its memory, works with a proxy server. The client does not require special settings, except for the server (host) password, login, password. Works without installation.
The program was originally created for Windows OS, but later it was ported to Unix. Ports are being developed for Mac OSX, Mac OS. There are versions for unofficial ports to other platforms, for example, mobile phones - Windows Mobile, Symbian OS.
