SMPlayer is used to play many popular video and audio formats without the need to install codecs beforehand, as well as to play DVDs and video streams from the Internet. It is a cross-platform player with open source code. The program uses the
Qt library and is a full-featured graphical shell for
MPlayer, providing it with basic options (for playing video, VCD, and DVD) and advanced options - support for filters and more.
One of the most interesting features is remembering the settings of played files. Even when closing the player, it saves the playback position of the file, the selected audio track, volume, subtitles, and more.
Main functionality:
- The player inherited a huge portion of its functionality from MPlayer.
- Subtitle settings (size, font, color, and position of subtitles).
- Adjusts subtitle and audio delay, synchronizing them.
- Switching audio and video tracks (including external ones).
- Video equalizers: adjustment of hue, contrast, brightness, and gamma of the image.
- Extensive mouse and scroll wheel control - volume adjustment, rewinding, playback speed, and scaling.
- Advanced settings: selection of demultiplexer or video and audio codecs.
- Variable playback speed (slow down, speed up).
- Built-in filters (deinterlacing, karaoke filter, and noise removal).
- The playlist allows sequential opening of multiple files or in random order (repeat possible).
- Settings dialogs with a huge number of options.
- Multilingual interface, over 20 languages, including Russian.
- Saving some options unique to different files.
Attention! During installation of the program, additional codecs can be installed (necessary for playing files with rare formats).
Changes in the latest version:
- The program now updates the code for using YouTube without updating the entire program version. The update section has been added to the settings dialog.
- Fixed subtitle search on opensubtitles.org.
- Fixed other bugs.
