The codec can be configured via third-party programs and through its own settings. However, the compression methods used by MPEG-4 are patented, so the use of Xvid may be illegal in some countries.
An experienced user, having configured the Xvid codec, will be able to use all settings for converting the video stream, and even set their own quantization matrix. If necessary, Xvid encodes the final and opening credits of films at a higher quantization level, as well as in black and white, thereby saving space.
