CometBird is one of the fastest web browsers, making your online work as comfortable and quick as possible. It is built on the free Gecko engine.
Visually, the CometBird interface is no different from Mozilla Firefox. However, CometBird has more capabilities compared to its well-known counterpart, thanks to additional extensions and plugins.
CometBird Feature
The browser has the ability to download audio, video, and flash files online. It also features automatic bookmark synchronization.
Built-in tools for searching and downloading new versions of software installed on your computer are included. The ability to open and close a large number of tabs simultaneously is implemented.
A download manager is built-in, an error console is available, and anonymous page browsing mode is supported. It supports Windows OS (from Windows XP to Windows 8), both 32-bit and 64-bit. Importantly, the browser works with a proxy server.
When launching CometBird, it offers to set itself as the default browser, and if the corresponding checkbox is not unchecked, it will prompt this every time. The interface does not differ from already familiar browsers, so the functionality is quite clear.
Upon first launch, two tabs open immediately: the CometBird home page and a search at https://google.atcomet.com/c/, which offers the most popular sites in various categories (shopping, games, music, etc.) and the input language. In the upper right corner, a separate window immediately offers the Yandex search engine.
The browser is Russified; when hovering over icons and keys, corresponding tooltips appear. The star – add a page to favorites, the circular arrow – refresh the page, the house – go to home, the folder with a star – show favorite pages, the wide left arrow – go back. The plus sign to the right of open tabs opens a new tab.
The browser menu opens in a single tab at the top left, orange with the white inscription CometBird. On the left – white – part are standard functions: exit, page print, page search, link copying. On the right – blue – part are bookmark management, history log, download tracking, settings, and program information.
Functionality
The functionality is quite modest and standard for browsers, but that is what ensures its famous performance.
Unfortunately, official technical support is in English (although the browser itself is offered for download in as many as 11 language versions it supports). However, the instructions contain many screenshots, so it is visually easy to figure out how to perform a particular operation. Additionally, bloggers writing about internet novelties have not overlooked this interesting development and have described all the pros and cons in Russian. Such reviews can be found via search.
Users note the following disadvantages:
- updates are released infrequently;
- pages sometimes display incorrectly;
- the browser does not always install correctly – sometimes you have to look for other programs and sites to download it;
- rarely, but it happens: CometBird gives an error and closes. However, all other browsers are guilty of this as well;
- for this browser, not all serious programs and applications have the ability to install. The user must be prepared that some bulky and complex sites or online games simply will not work in this browser.
Among the advantages, users appreciate the real speed, small program size, simplicity, and excellent performance even when opening a large number of tabs.
The developers claim that CometBird is currently the fastest browser, even outpacing the swift Opera. But this issue remains debatable, as the user simply cannot perceive differences of tenths of a second. Perhaps when opening several dozen tabs, the speed difference would be noticeable. But this is an extremely rare case. However, no user has yet complained about CometBird's performance.
