FireWall (firewall, firewall) - This is an integrated operating system antivirus software that protects the computer from unauthorized intrusions via various types of networks. Typically, a firewall operates according to user-defined rules, filters network traffic, and protects against various attacks.
Regarding firewall functionality, it is similar to that of a network firewall, but due to its specific nature, it can control and protect the computer at other stages, namely, it can control application access to ports, effectively allowing or denying network access. As a rule, firewalls come in different types, and depending on the type of firewall installed, it can either increase or decrease the level of protection.
For example: a personal firewall from ESET works much more efficiently compared to the built-in Windows firewall. Thus, a personal firewall can monitor not only protocols and network addresses, but also the software that exploits these services.
Also, recently, the so-called "Learning Mode" has been gaining popularity, allowing fine-tuning of the firewall to the configuration of the computer on which the FireWall is running.
However, despite the fact that FireWall is in many ways similar to a network firewall, it should not be used as a network firewall, since it cannot filter routed and/or translated packets, unlike a network firewall.
All this is very important because an attacker can easily penetrate your computer and do whatever they want if you do not have a firewall configured or simply do not have one.
Recently, antivirus software providers are increasingly embedding a personal firewall into Antivirus Software, which itself controls network traffic and prevents attackers from penetrating the computer. For example, such integrated firewalls are provided by antiviruses like Eset Smart Security and KIS.
Good luck!
