Cool Reader - a convenient open-source program designed for reading books online in various formats on Linux, Windows, Android OS; Pocket Book, LBook devices. It becomes indispensable if you have to read huge texts from the screen. Screen font smoothing, reformatting it to any size, smooth adjustable scrolling, textured background, customizable palette – significantly reduce eye strain. A convenient text-to-speech feature is built-in using MS-SAPI4.0; 5.1 engine, allowing you to listen to the book while doing other things without straining your eyes.
The program understands many book formats downloaded from digital library websites. It recognizes headings, quotes, paragraph boundaries. Extracts RAR, ZIP, ARJ, LZH, HA archives. Can read MS Word formats: rtf, html, doc; FictionBook: fb2, txt. Automatically detects Russian encodings dos, koi-8, win; and utf-8, latin, unicode. Properly recognizes html pseudo-formatting from lib.ru.
Texts are viewed with smooth scrolling (continuous scroll) or like a regular book (1 or 2 pages). Many ergonomic reading parameters are adjustable. Supports recording to MP3 audiobooks for playback on an MP3 player. Custom pronunciation dictionaries can be attached for each voice engine separately. A pronunciation dictionary editor is built in. Supports generating table of contents from headings; text search, bookmarks, text selection with the mouse and copy. Export text to RTF, HTML and TXT formats. The program remembers the list of recently opened books, bookmarks, positions in the file.
