OnlyOffice Desktop Editors — simple text editor, but at the same time a fairly functional office «all-in-one» that has all the necessary tools for working with office documents and does not require an internet connection.
The existence of free office suites is no secret, but among all the free alternatives to Microsoft Office, for some reason users only know OpenOffice and LibreOffice. Yet there are also other excellent comprehensive applications for working with office documents.
The OnlyOffice Desktop Editors package includes three editor programs. The first is intended for working with text documents, the second allows you to work with tables, and the third lets you create and edit presentations.
The application has a convenient, clean interface, supports most common office formats, including DOCX and DOC, XLS and XLSX, PPT and PPTX, as well as ODT, ODS, CSV, XPS, EPUB and some others. Mastering the program is also not particularly difficult. If you have already dealt with Microsoft Office, you will easily master OnlyOffice Desktop Editors.
And although all three components of the program are inferior in terms of functionality to Microsoft Office, the applications included in the package cope excellently with all the main tasks that arise when creating and editing documents.
There are practically no compatibility issues, so the formatting of the content of files created in other office suites will not differ. Equally, the content of documents created in OnlyOffice Desktop Editors will not need to be reformatted in Microsoft Office or other similar suites.
But with macros, not everything is so smooth. There is a high probability that most scripts created in Microsoft Office will stop working in OnlyOffice Desktop Editors.
The program also has other disadvantages, for example, the inconvenient way to install third-party add-ons that extend the basic capabilities of the program, as well as relatively high RAM consumption. The latter is due to the fact that the program is built on a JS engine, although currently the creators of the suite are working on improving its performance.
