Most often, the cause of a black screen when loading Windows XP is a poorly connected HDD or a corrupted OS. To fix this problem, we recommend that you first check all connections in the system unit. In particular, we advise you to check the connections of the power supply to the motherboard and the connection of the HDD to the motherboard.
If all connections are in order or Windows still does not load after improving the wire connections, then in this case, there are 2 possible solutions.
- Firstly, the problem may be due to a corrupted OS.
- Secondly, the problem may be due to an incorrectly set BOOT Priority in the BIOS.
In the first case, we recommend that you simply reinstall or restore the Windows OS.
If you only have a local disk C on your computer, which stores all your files including the OS, and you do not want to lose these files, contact a professional who will help you resolve the problem as quickly as possible without losing files.
Otherwise, if you have a local disk C on your computer, which contains only Windows, and several other local disks, then you can safely reinstall the Windows OS yourself, since the reinstallation process formats only the local disk C, i.e., the system disk.
In the second case, the problem may be due to an incorrectly configured BOOT Priority. To diagnose and fix this problem, you should enter the BIOS settings. To do this, during computer startup, when the BIOS developer logo appears, press the DEL button, after which you will enter the BIOS settings.
In the BIOS, find the BOOT item, there will be a sub-item BOOT Priority, now carefully look at the order in which the devices are set. Your HDD should be first, followed by the DVD drive, and then USB. You may not have USB or DVD, but other devices may be present. The most important thing is that the HDD is set to priority #1.
Now, press the F10 key, after which a message "Save&Exit?" will appear, agree and the computer will automatically restart. In some cases, this method helps.
