Users often wonder how to properly choose RAM. Not just choose, but ensure it meets all your requirements.
First, decide for what purpose you are purchasing RAM: do you need it for work or for gaming?
If you need RAM for work, get an 8GB DDR3. If for gaming, we recommend getting 16GB, which will be sufficient to handle modern games. However, if you have a modest budget, then get 8GB for gaming, as it will be enough under these conditions.
As for RAM manufacturers, the best are: Samsung, G.Skill, Transcend, Kingston. In general, try to get RAM that uses Micron chips.
Which RAM to choose: DDR2 or DDR3?
To answer this question with 100% certainty, you first need to check what your motherboard is called and its version — you can do this using the GPU-Z program. Or, to avoid installing programs and find out what motherboard you have, follow these steps:
- Click Start > Run, type cmd
- In the console window, type wmic baseboard get Manufacturer - this will show the motherboard manufacturer
- Then type wmic baseboard get product - this will show your motherboard model
Next, enter this into a Google search, for example, and look up the specifications of your motherboard. The specifications will indicate which DDR version is compatible with your motherboard.
Also, don't forget that the RAM you buy must be compatible with your motherboard, so it's best to bring your motherboard/system unit with you when choosing RAM. This way, you'll be sure everything works.
