It is quite rare that a local drive with the letter "D" or "E" simply disappears. In this case, you should not take any action if you are not a professional.
Every wrong action can increase the risk of data loss on the specified HDD partition. However, this problem can still be fixed. So, to recover a missing HDD partition, you will need the program Acronis Disk Director, preferably version 11.
Method #1:
- Go to the "Disk Management" section, where you can see an unallocated area on the HDD - this is the missing partition.
- Assign the drive letter "D" to the unallocated area, after which the missing drive should appear. Otherwise, read method #2.
Method #2:
If the first method did not help you, then this method should fix the problem. You will need the program "Acronis Recovery Expert", which is part of "Acronis Disk Director 11".
1) Launch "Acronis Recovery Expert" from within "Acronis Disk Director 11".
2) A welcome screen appears, click "Next".
4) Select the unallocated space, then click "Next".
5) As the search method, choose "Quick".
6) Select the HDD partition "D" and click "Next".
7) Wait while the recovery process is running.
8) See the result of the operation, click "Next".
10) See the congratulations, click "Exit".
11) Open "My Computer" and see the missing drive "D", as well as all the lost files.
